Sixth seeded Rishi Reddy from Karnataka caused the biggest upset of the Tournament by showing the door to the struggling top-seed and local lad S.D. Prajwal Dev 2-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 and entered the semi-finals, in the Mysuru Open Men’s Tennis Tournament conducted by Orange Sportz and Mysore Tennis Club (MTC) here yesterday.
Prajwal Dev, playing in his home court, started well by breaking his rival’s serve in the second game by capitalising on the unforced errors of Rishi Reddy to take an early 2-0 lead in the first set. Prajwal went on to take the set at 6-2. In a reverse of fortunes, Rishi Reddy stepped up his game and playing attacking and attractive tennis on both the flanks, took the second set in a interesting tie-break 7-6 (11-9).
Prajwal Dev suffered from cramps early in the third set and could not move properly and the same was utilised by Rishi Reddy who capitalised on the unforced errors of his rival and took the set at 6-4 and match and thus knocked out the top-seed from the fray.
Unseeded Tamil Nadu lad Suresh Dakshineshwar, continuing his good form, caused a minor upset by registering a well-earned win over seventh seeded V. Vignesh (TN) 6-2, 6-3 and sailed into the semis.
