Phone tapping: Sumalatha files complaint with EC against HDK Govt.

March 26, 2019

Bengaluru: Accusing that the State Government was tapping her phones and misusing Government machinery, Actor Sumalatha, who is contesting as an independent candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha seat against Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s (HDK) son Nikhil, has filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) here yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar at his office on Seshadri Iyer Road here, she alleged that the CM is misusing Police, entire Government machinery for the victory of his son from Mandya Lok Sabha seat.

She said that she expressed concerns about her safety, alleging that her opponents were trying to intimidate her. Yet, no security has been provided to her and some Police officials were closely watching all her movements and passing information to the CM on daily basis.

She said her supporter and actor, Darshan’s house was stoned and attempts have been made to demoralise her from campaigning in the elections.

She also came down heavily on the Chief Minister for stooping to low level of politics like disconnecting power and cable connections supply during her nomination filing.

She also alleged that her opponents have been distributing Rs.500 door to door in Mandya Lok Sabha constituency besides sponsoring lunch and petrol expenditures of Nikhil’s supporters thus violating model code of conduct.

On Kumaraswamy’s criticism targeting actors Yash and Darshan — who are backing her candidature — she said that she would not respond to his comments.

“Even Darshan has said the same. We will not be deterred by these remarks and will be with the people. After winning the elections too, we will ask people on what our course of action should be,” she said.

She asked the CM who enjoys the support of eight JD(S) MLAs and two Ministers in Mandya must face the elections with development plank instead of resorting to cheap politics.
