Mandya: Former MLA and Ambarish supporter H.B. Ramu said that 90 per cent of Congress workers and voters are supporting independent candidate Sumalatha Ambarish during this Lok Sabha polls.
Speaking to reporters at Mandya yesterday, he said that Ambarish was with the Congress and the Congress workers of the district had expected Congress ticket to Sumalatha, wife of late actor Ambarish.
Due to the strategy of coalition partners, Sumalatha was denied the ticket, he added.
“She is now contesting as an independent candidate and Congress workers will support her. She will be elected with a huge margin,” he said.
He also said that party workers are not ready to support coalition candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy as he is an outsider. “It is an issue of self respect of the people of the constituency and pride of Mandya. Sumalatha is the daughter-in-law of Mandya, poll outcome would have been different if the independent candidate was also an outsider. Ambarish had helped a lot of leaders and supporters. Time has come for them to be faithful to Ambarish and to respect the departed leaders by electing his wife to the Parliament,” he added.
Ramu also appealed the conscious voters of Mandya to reject the dynastic politics and vote for the deserving candidate in this polls.
Zilla Panchayat former Member G.C. Anand, Taluk Panchayat former President Tyagaraju, Mandya Milk Union Director Chandru, Sathanur Mahesh and others were present at the press meet.
