Mysuru:  “The whole world is looking at India as it has the highest youth population consisting of 40 per cent. Hence, the opportunities for youth are tremendous and such interaction sessions being held by the Consulate General of Japan is a welcome one,” said University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar.

He was delivering the inaugural address after inaugurating an interactive session on ‘Opportunities of Higher Education in Japan, Japan Visa-New Relaxation rules, Japan Tourism,’ organised by International Centre, University of Mysore and Indo-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI), Karnataka at the Senate Bhavan, Manasagangothri, here this morning and said that the opportunities for today’s youth are plenty.

“There are nearly 600 to 700 foreign students studying in University of Mysore itself and likewise many of the students here are keen to study abroad. Japan has become one of the favourite destinations for studying as it offers the best of facilities. Students must make use of such opportunities which are rare and get the best from the experts present in each field by asking searching questions,” he said.

University of Mysore Registrar Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi said that the University of Mysore is a century-old University and it is one of the greatest Universities in the world and added that the students who study here must also look for higher education opportunities in other parts of the world and Japan is one such nation, where the students get the best education.

Ken Furuya Consul-Visa Section, Consulate General of Japan, Bengaluru was the chief guest. Dr. Neelam Ramaiah, Director, University of Tokyo, India Office, Coordinator, Study in Japan Regional Office in Southwest Asia, was the guest of honour. Yuji Ueno, Deputy Director, Japan National Tourism Organisation, New Delhi, Sanjeev Kumar, Manager, Global Sales and Strategies, Japan Airlines Co. Ltd, Reenu Gupta, Advisor Visa, Consulate General of Japan, Bengaluru, P. N. Karanth, Hon. Secretary, IJCCI,  Prof. G.R. Janardhana, Director, International Centre and others were present.

Nearly 500 students, many of them engineering students as also from Manasagangothri had registered for the programme.
