Winners of Robo Wrestling

Mysuru: The Department of Mechanical Engineering, the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, had organised a two-day National-level Robo Wrestling Competition ‘Robo Rikishi-2019’ on Apr.11 and 12 under the sponsorship of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III).

S.L. Ramachandra, Director, NIE Board of Management and Sunderesh Shankaran, Vice-President, Engineering Services, Infosys, Mysuru, inaugurated the event and appreciated the work carried out by first year engineering students who exhibited their work in the field of Robotics. Around 15 innovative projects in the field of Robotics were selected and exhibited.

On the second day, K. Ganesh Kini, Co-Founder and Managing Director, Crevavi Technologies Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the event and spoke about how Internet of Things (IoT) has changed the present day scenario of Industry and society and how students can sharpen their competitive spirit and product designing skills through participating in  technical events like ‘Robo Rikishi.’

‘Robo Rikishi-2019’ is a three- level robotic competition, namely, pushing maximum weight of 8 kg, clearing hurdles in the track test and ‘Robo Wars.’ The participants have to clear each level in order to move forward.

Totally 14 teams from various Engineering Colleges all over Karnataka participated in the competition out of which 12 teams cleared the first round which was the weight pushing test. The second round was the track test which created competitive spirit among the students as the robot should pass through the track and clear the hurdles. Eleven teams were able   to clear this level.

The last round was the sumo event where one-on-one Robo wrestling match held between the teams and two teams were qualified for finals.

Winners

The Team from MVJ College of Engineering and a team from NIE were able to secure first and second place. For the third place, all the robots which were not qualified for the finals were placed in the arena and all the robots fought among themselves last robot standing was announced as the winner. The third place was secured by team from MVJ College of Engineering.
