Mysuru: City Railway Police have arrested a man on charges of stealing gold ornaments, cash, mobile phone and other valuables from train passengers yesterday from City Railway Station.
The accused has been identified as C.D. Gangadhar, a resident of Kamalanagar in Bengaluru. Police recovered the stolen booty worth Rs.1.2 lakh plus Rs.4,270 cash from him.
They caught him in Cauvery Express when he was suspiciously moving there and during interrogation, he is said to have confessed of his crime.
A woman identified as Rathnamma from city had lodged a complaint with the Police that an unidentified man had lifted her vanity bag containing gold ornaments, a mobile phone and cash, worth lakhs of rupees, when she was travelling in Tippu Express to Bengaluru on May 4.
Based on the complaint, City Railway Police Circle Inspector N. Jayakumar and staff, intensified the operation purse lifters from Railway passengers and arrested the accused.
