Shifted to Koorgalli Rehabilitation Centre in Mysuru

Saragur:  An eight to nine-year-old tigress that had created panic among the villagers by killing the livestock, was trapped in a cage placed by the Forest Department, at Basapura village in Saragur taluk, in the wee hours yesterday.

As the tigress was killing cattle and making frequent appearances which were sighted by the villagers, who had complained to the Forest Department, the Forest officials had also conducted a combing operation to trap the tigress but in vain.

It is learnt that the tigress had killed about six cows since about 15 days and had killed a cow about three days ago in the field of one Jawananayaka at Basapura in N. Begur, following which the villagers again lodged a complaint with the Forest Department.

On Saturday evening, the Forest Department staff, who arrived with a cage, placed it in the field of Javananayaka and had tied a goad as a bait to lure the  big wild cat.

The tigress, which walked into the cage in the wee hours of Sunday, was trapped inside.

The Forest Department staff, who rushed to the village on learning about the tigress being trapped, shifted the tigress to Chamundi Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre at Koorgalli in Mysuru, where the veterinarians provided first aid as the tigress had injured its teeth during its effort to free itself and is kept under observation at the centre.
