CM Yediyurappa announces Rs. 5 lakh compensation for flood victims

Bengaluru: Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa (BSY) has announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the family members of those who lost their lives in the floods due to heavy rains.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, BSY said that 24 people have lost their lives due to the floods and added that a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh will be given to the kin of the deceased.

The CM said that nearly 1,024 villages in 80 taluks of 17 districts in the State have been affected due to floods caused by incessant rains in the region and added that 20 National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams, 10 Army teams, five Navy teams and two State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are engaged in the rescue operations.

CM Yediyurappa said that around 3.75 lakh hectare crop area, 14,000 houses and 478 km of power lines have been damaged in the floods.
