Madikeri: Even as the rains have receded in Kodagu after over a week-long spell of deluge that caused floods and havoc in the district, the woes of flood victims taking shelter in relief camps set up by the district administration does not seem to end for now, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rains in some parts and heavy rains in some other parts of the district over the next five days.

Most of the roads in the districts have turned unmotorable due to heavy rains, floods and landslips. The Kodagu district administration has ordered closure of all Anganawadi Centres, schools and colleges in the district till Aug.14.

The flood victims are sheltered in the relief camps set up at Anganawadi Centres and educational institutions across the district.

Properties and crops worth hundreds of crores of rupees have been destroyed in the district due to the deluge that hit the district for over a week.

Meanwhile, bus services between Madikeri and Virajpet via Murnad have been suspended as the second bridge across Bethri river has suffered severe damages due to the floods. The bridge is said to be on the verge of collapse and any repair works can be taken up only after the water level comes down.

As rain has receded, the Bethri water level too has come down with water just overflowing the bridge. Large sized wooden logs were swept on to the bridge and locals are striving hard to remove the wooden logs. 

As some relief, the water level at Bhagamandala’s Triveni Sangama too has come down and life in Bhagamandala is gradually returning to normalcy.

Vehicular movement on Bhagamandala-Madikeri Road and as well as Bhagamandala-Ayyangeri Road resumed yesterday.

With water level receding, devotees can now travel up to the parking lot at Talacauvery. However the entry to the temple has become more difficult as a 20-metre wide huge landslip occurred very close to the Talacauvery entrance arch on Monday.
