New MRC Chairman greeted 

Mysuru: The eagerly-awaited Mysore Derby-2019 (Grade I) will be held at the Mysore Race Course here on Oct.20, said the newly-elected Chairman of Mysore Race Club (MRC) Dr.N. Nithyanand Rao.

Addressing the media at the MRC premises here this morning, he said that the Mysore Races-2019, commencing on Aug.29 and ending on Oct.30, will have 18 days of racing. 

The total number of races will be 110, number of horses stabled 410, while there will be 400 outstation horses, which will participate in the season.

The stakes advertised (including Cups) is for Rs.5,69,40,000. The Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club (JWGC) will continue to sponsor Mysore 2000 Guineas. 

About 17 local Trainers and about 45 outstation Trainers including a few from Madras Race Club, Chennai, are expected to race their charges during Mysore Races-2019. In all, about 100 Jockeys including all the top riders in the Indian racing circuit are expected to participate, he said. 

Invitation Cup

For the first time, the Invitation Cup will be held at MRC on Feb.29 and Mar. 1, 2020, he said and added that a new 18” X 30” big screen will be installed in front of the Grand Stand.

Silver Jubilee of  MRC Eye Hospital

The Mysore Race Club is the only racing club in the country which is involved in charitable activities through their Mysore Race Club Charitable Trust and the Mysore Race Club Eye Hospital, which is a part of this Trust, will be celebrating its silver jubilee this year, said Dr. Nithyanand Rao. 

Secretary-in-Charge Dr. M.R. Jagannath, Members B.U. Chengappa, H. Kusumukar Shetty, M.C. Mallikarjun, H.K. Ramesh, T.D. Mahesh, Y.P. Udaya Shanker, B.N. Cariappa and K.G. Ananth Raj Urs, were present at the press meet.

Classic/Sweepstakes Races

The Tipsters’ Tally Trophy for Mysore Races-2019 will be continued. The other important Classic/Sweepstakes Races are: The Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Memorial Million 2019 – for three year old – to be run on Aug.29; The H.H. Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy – for four year old and over – on Sept. 5; The Maharaja’s Cup – for four year old and over on Sept.20; Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas 2019 on Oct.4;  the Governor’s Cup 2019 – for four year old and over – to be run on Oct.10 and The Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship on Oct. 11.
