‘Great contributions from Swami Vivekananada’s Western disciples’

Mysuru: Along with Swami Vivekananda, his disciples from the West have also contributed greatly to the Indian society, said Sanskrit Scholar Dr. H.V. Nagaraj Rao.

He was delivering the valedictory address at the two-day national seminar on “The Contributions of the Eastern and Western Disciples of Swami Vivekananda to Indian Society,” organised by the Department of Studies in Philosophy and Swami Vivekananda Chair at the EMMRC auditorium in Manasagangothri, here recently. He said that after Swami Vivekananda and his disciple Abedananda Swamiji had given discourses in many places. He was also a great researcher, he added.

Swami Vivekananda’s Western disciple Sister Nivedita (Margaret) had rendered great service to the society being with the monk. Hundreds of his Western disciples have spread the India culture across the world, he said.

Recalling the time when he was in Chicago University as a Visiting Professor, he said that he had visited the places where Swami Vivekananda had walked and the speeches he made at the World Parliament of Religions in 1893 resonates even to this day. He delivered the address in English and also recited Sanskrit shlokas, added Dr. Nagaraj Rao.

Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala Chief Swami Yukteshanandaji Maharaj presided, Chairman of the Seminar and Head of the Department of Studies in Philosophy Dr. S. Venkatesh, Swami Vivekananda Chair Visiting Professor, Prof. V.N. Sheshagiri Rao, Coordinator of the seminar Dr. Daniel and others were present.
