‘Memory Walk’ marks World Alzheimer’s month

Mysuru:  Marking World Alzheimer’s Month, a ‘Memory Walk’ was organised in city this morning by Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI).

The walk was aimed to create an awareness among people on Dementia. About 300 students participated in the walk commencing from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple and passing through D. Devaraja Urs Road before culminating near DC’s office. Posters and banners on Alzheimer’s Disease were carried by the participants.

Flagging off the walk, MLA S.A. Ramdas recalled the Sept. 21 is commemorated after Dr. Alois Alzheimer came out with his research findings in 1906 of a woman who had died of a mysterious mental illness which later on was named after the doctor. He said that over 10 lakh people are affected by the disease every year access the world which can only be controlled. He disclosed that Ayurveda and Yoga were good for memory and quoted the wonder uses of ‘Oandalage Soppu’ in that context. He said that ARDSI had sought a separate hospital for Alzheimer’s patients which is difficult but opined that K.R. Hospital can start a separate wing for that. He assured that he would discuss with Prime Minister to make drugs for Alzheimer’s disease available at Jan Aushad shops at affordable rates.

ARDSI Mysuru Chapter President Dr. Hanumantachar Joshi, Mayor Pushpalath Jagannath, Maharaja’s Institute of Technology President Dr. S. Murali and others were present.
