Mysuru: On the day when the Cyberabad Police in neighbouring Telangana State shot dead all the four accused  in the Disha rape and murder case that shook the nation, here in Mysuru hundreds of people under the banner of ODP (Organisation for the Development of People) took out a rally from Kote Anjaneyaswamy temple to Gandhi Square demanding execution of all the convicts sentenced to death in Nirbhaya case and all other such cases elsewhere.

Alleging that many culprits were escaping punishment due to the delay in justice delivery, the protestors wanted the Government to set up more fast-track courts to try heinous crimes against women and the society.

Maintaining that any delay in the trial will often lead to political interference in favour of the accused, the protestors urged the Government  not to give scope for political influence in the trial of heinous acts and to expedite the execution of death convicts, as the execution would act as a strong deterrent to offenders.

The protestors welcomed the Telangana Police action of killing all the four accused in the Disha case in an encounter today.

Anganwadi workers rally: Seeking fulfilment of their demands, Anganwadi workers under the banner of CITU-affiliated Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers Association, took out a massive rally in the city this morning. The rally, which commenced from Gun House Circle, passed through Chamaraja Double Road, Ramaswamy Circle, JLB Road and Vinoba Road to reach the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where they staged a demo.

Opposing the Government’s policy of  starting LKG and UKG Pre-school classes in  Government Schools, the Anganwadi workers urged the Government to introduce LKG and UKG classes in Anganwadi Centres itself.

They also demanded dropping of 3 to 9 year categorisation as envisaged in the new education policy, introduction of LIC based pension scheme, payment of minimum wage in accordance with seniority of service, promotion of anganwadi helpers and framing of service rules  among others.

Later, they presented their 14-point charter of demands to the DC’s Office. Association President H.S.Sunanda, office-bearers Dharmavathi, K.P. Kaveramma and others took part.
