Three muggers arrested; three bikes seized

Mysuru: The Devaraja Police, who arrested three muggers, have recovered three motorcycles and a silver chain allegedly robbed by them.

The arrested have been identified as Karthik alias Karia, 23, resident of Vijayanagar 2nd Stage, Mysuru, Anand alias Nepali, 22, a resident of Paduvarahalli, Mysuru and Shivakumar alias Shivaprasad, a resident of Amrutheshwaranagar in Belavadi, Mysuru.

One Manjunath of Bengaluru, in a complaint lodged with Devaraja Police on Dec.4, said that he came to Dasappa Circle to have food as there was much time for him to board a train to Holenarasipur, when two unidentified persons befriended him saying that they too were from Holenarasipur and they would accompany him on the train. Sometime later, the duo took Manjunath to a secluded spot near the railway bridge under the pretext of relieving themselves, where they robbed him of Rs.2,400 cash and a silver chain, after threatening him with a knife.

Acting on the complaint, the Police checked the footages of the images captured by CCTVs installed in the vicinity of the spot of crime, during which they discovered that one of the duo was an old offender. Later acting on a tip off, the Police picked up Karthik when he was sitting on a Honda Activa scooter near Hinkal bus stop on Dec.11.

During interrogation, he confessed to having robbed Manjunath along with his accomplice and had also stolen two-wheelers. Based on his confession, the Police arrested Anand and Shivakumar from their houses and recovered a silver chain, three motorcycles, totally worth Rs.1.80 lakh, allegedly stolen by them in Nazarbad, NR and Hunsur Rural Police Station limits.

DCP B.T. Kavita supervised Devaraja Sub-Division ACP M.N.  Shashidhar, Devaraja Inspector Prasanna Kumar, SIs M.R. Leelavati and S. Raju, ASI Uday Kumar and staff Somashetty, Venugopal, Suresh, Nandish, Pradeep and Maruti Pavan in the nabbing operation.
