A skipper’s knock of 155 n.o. (250b, 20×4, 2×6) by Karan Sharma and his vital fourth wicket partnership of 142-runs with Sameer Choudhary (67,11×4) enabled Uttar Pradesh (UP) to end the first day of their four-day Col. C.K. Nayadu Trophy 2019-20 match against hosts Karnataka on a comfortable note by scoring 285/4 in 90 overs, at the SDNR Wadayar Platinum Jubilee University Grounds here yesterday.
At close of play, Karan Sharma (155 n.o.) and Sawan Singh (35 n.o.) were at the crease and have so far added 109-runs for the unfinished fifth wicket.
Earlier winning the toss and electing to field, hosts Karnataka, struck early with medium-pacer Abhilash Shetty removing opener Rahul S. Rawat (4) and the hosts had another success with Madhav Kaushik (0) departing early and UP were reduced to 2/10. Next to go was opener Abhishek Goswami (13) who was caught by S.S. Sateri off M.S. Bhandage (3/34).
A excellent rear-guard action by skipper Karan Sharma and Samer Choudhary who added 142-runs for the fourth wicket helped their team’s cause.
