A public lecture entitled “Why Evolution is central to Biology and our Lives” is being organised by the Mysuru-based CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) on Feb. 13 at Cheluvamba Hall, CSIR-CFTRI, at 11.30 am. The talk is the second of the ‘Future India Talks Public Lecture Series’ that was initiated as a new year initiative by the Institute. Prof. Amitabh Joshi, Professor of Evolutionary Biology in Jawaharlal Nehru Centre For Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru, will be speaking on why evolution is important and highlight the Indian contribution to the field. There is a tendency to dismiss evolutionary biology as merely a theory and fundamentally flawed science. This talk will address some of these misconceptions. “Future India Talk Series is an effort to expose the students of Mysuru city to thought-provoking lectures by eminent scholars. These are particularly aimed to help the undergraduate students of the city, and the general public,” said Dr. K.S.M.S. Raghavarao, Director, CSIR-CFTRI, in a press release. Entry to the lecture series is free. Interested public and students may call on Ph: 0821-2515910 to register for participation.
