Cong. to devise new strategies to stage a comeback: AICC Secretary

Mysuru: Congress party will come up with new strategies to win the forthcoming Assembly elections in 2018 and the party will renew its efforts to come back to power, said All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary P.C. Vishnunath.

He was addressing party leaders in city yesterday, asking them to be prepared for the elections. Vishnunath is the party in-charge for Mysuru region. The party, under the leadership of AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, will tour the entire State from June 25 to elicit opinions from grassroot workers. All the Assembly segments will be covered in the tour, he said.

The AICC team has already camped in Bengaluru and gave an opportunity for State-level leaders to air their views. Opinions from leaders including Chief Minister, KPCC office-bearers, heads of Boards and Corporations have been elicited and the observations have been recorded on party performance and the strategy for the next elections, he revealed.

Vishnunath further said that the district-level meetings will be conducted as the second stage of opinion collections and the observations will be conveyed to the High Command. The party bosses will be informed about the present state of the party in Karnataka, coordination with the administration, people-friendly policies and grievances of party leaders and workers, he said.

Opinions from Congress workers from Mysuru urban and rural areas, KPCC office-bearers and elected representatives will be collected and efforts will be on to further strengthen the party which has a strong base in Mysuru and old Mysuru regions.

According to party sources, the AICC in-charge has told the local leaders to identify potential candidates for the 2018 polls and also examine why some of the Congress candidates lost during the previous elections. They have been asked to make a list of local leaders who can garner votes for Congress candidates.

District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijay Kumar, City Congress President R. Murthy, Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) Chairperson Mallige Veeresh and other leaders were present at the meeting.
