March 13, 2020

Even as the deadly coronavirus is causing havoc across the globe, Health Minister B.Sriramulu said that the State Government will appoint over 2,000 doctors through direct recruitment by end of April. Replying to a query by opposition MLAs A.T. Ramaswamy, Dr. Ranganath and Shivanand Patil during Question hour in the Legislative Assembly yesterday, Sriramulu said that there were 2,359 Primary Health Centres in the State, out of which only 1,432 have permanent medical staff and contract doctors are serving at the remaining Centres. Asserting that the Government will directly recruit 2,000 doctors, he said that the Chief Minister has agreed for the direct recruitment, giving a go-by to the KPSC this time. Pointing out that the Government has appointed 800 nursing staff, he said that there were plans to appoint more nurses in the next two months.
