Sir,
We see many times people complain about the bad conditions of roads and after suffering for so many months and reports published in media, the concerned will initiate action to metal the same. But the pleasure of driving on the re-metalled road will not last for long. Reason: Just within two or three weeks, MCC will start digging the same road where there are manholes at the centre of the road.
First of all, no need to mention about the quality of such roads. On top of this, once such newly re-metalled roads are dug, the roads are corroded and the same state of affairs continues within a very short time. This could be seen for four or five decades. Still, no elected representative or any authorities have made up their minds to find a permanent solution.
There are instances of Corporators and Ministers concerned visiting places like Singapore, England to study such issues but to no avail.
Here is a suggestion. Let the MCC map all the manholes at the centre of the roads in the city. A suitable plan can be devised to shift such manholes on the centre of the road to the side of the road so that at any point of time, road cutting is avoided and even when the manhole is opened it does not create damage to the roads laid.
This may cost more by 20 to 30 percent of the road cutting work which MCC undertakes. However, when compared to the shabby roads and relaying or filling temporarily, the cost is negligible. Will MCC think on these lines and plan a strategy?
