Mysore/Mysuru: With the University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar declaring recently that the University has proposed to hold final year Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate Degree exams in August, JD(S) MLC Marithibbegowda has urged the VC to hold a meeting with College Principals on the precautionary and safety measures to be taken at all the exam centres as Covid cases are on the rise.
In a press statement, Marithibbegowda, who represents South Teachers Constituency in the Legislative Council, said that he welcomes Prof. Hemantha Kumar’s decision to hold exams in Aug-Sept. but pointed out that at the same time, the VC should also take all precautionary measures for the safe conduct of the exam, taking into consideration the health of both the students and the teaching staff. In this regard, the MLC suggested that the VC hold a meeting with the Principals of all the colleges coming under the University to discuss the issue.
Reminding the VC that he had promised to hold a 10-day refresher class for students ahead of the exam, he said that this should be extended to at least 15 days in the interest of the students.
He also suggested that the University make all preparations for evaluation much ahead of its start in the absence of proper public transport, boarding and lodging facilities. Speaking of evaluation of answer scripts, Marithibbegowda said the University should carry out the part of the evaluation work at various district Headquarters instead of entirely in Mysuru.
