To take out procession of Goddess Chamundeshwari portrait on Oct. 26, the Vijayadashami Day

Mysore/Mysuru: Strongly opposing the Government’s decision of a simple Dasara this year in the wake of COVID-19 crisis, Kannada Chaluvali leader and former MLA Vatal Nagaraj said that a portrait of Goddess Chamundeshwari, placed inside a chariot, will be taken out in a procession on Oct. 26, the Vijayadashami Day, culminating the 10-day festivities.

Speaking to press persons after breaking 101 coconuts in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the Palace North Gate recently, he urged the Government for a grand celebration as in the previous years.

Declaring that he would take out a procession from the Palace North Gate to Bannimantap at 11.30 am on Oct. 26 with a portrait of Goddess Chamundeshwari in a chariot, Vatal Nagaraj said that he had broken 101 coconuts on Dasara inauguration day in protest against the Government’s decision of a simple Dasara.

Accusing the Government of ignoring Dasara celebrations, he said that by ordering a simple Dasara, Chief Minister Yediyurappa has done a dishonour for Dasara. 

Pointing out that Dasara celebrations must not be limited to Mysuru alone, he said that the 10-day celebration should be a national festival. 

He urged the Government for constituting an All Party Committee for Dasara celebration. 

Claiming that the Government, which allotted Rs. 15 crore for Dasara, had spent most of the money on illumination, he said that the Government seems to think that Dasara celebration only means illumination.

Kannada activists Mugur Nanjundaswamy, Thayur Vittalamurthy and others were present.
