First Minimally Invasive Open Heart Surgery performed at Cauvery Hospital

Mysore/Mysuru: Cauvery Heart & Multi-Speciality Hospital on Bannur Road in Siddarthanagar here has upgraded its skills to perform Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeries under the care of Dr. S.C. Madhuprakash, Chief  Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Dr. Satwik Telkar, Chief  Cardiac Anaesthetist.

The first mitral valve repair operation by Minimal Invasive Technique (a small cut through right chest without cutting the bone) was performed on 41-year-old Abdul Lathif recently and the patient is doing fine and discharged.

Minimal invasive cardiac surgery is an advanced skilful surgery performed at a very few hospitals, mainly in metropolitan cities. Presently, Cauvery Heart & Multi-Speciality Hospital is one of these few hospitals and the first one to provide this care in Mysuru indigenously.

Dr. Madhuprakash said, “Many can be operated through this technique and it needs a team approach. The main procedure which are done through this technique are valve                                                operation, ASD closure and bypass operation. Patients who are not fit for this procedure are patient with morbid obesity, patient requiring multiple procedures at the same time, patients with advanced disease and any patient with previous operations in the chest.”

Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar, Chairman of the Cauvery Group and Syndicate Member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), said: “Cauvery Heart & Multi-Speciality Hospital, one of the top most hospitals providing quality cardiac care in Mysuru since 10  years, has already done more than 2,500 open heart surgeries with good outcome. Minimal invasive cardiac surgery is a new development.”
