Handloom Fair to continue till April 11
Mysore/Mysuru: A special Handloom Fair and Handicrafts Exhibition are underway at JSS Mysore Urban Haat on Hebbal Ring Road in city.
While the Handicrafts Exhibition will conclude today (April 4), Handloom Fair will continue till April 11.
The expo, which is held under the sponsorship of Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Cauvery Handlooms, Bengaluru and Department of Handloom and Textile and Commerce, Government of Karnataka, will be open to public between 10 am and 9 pm.
The Fair is aimed at providing a high market for handloom products made by weavers and weavers co-operatives and to promote their skills. One of the features of the Fair is availability of traditional and specialised accessories.
There are many crafts prepared by artisans from North-Eastern States including Assam. The 60 stores have a wide variety of materials and products.
At Gadag Laxmashwar Craftsmen’s Shop, there are many everyday items made from reed grass apart from traditional accessories, baskets, slippers, mats, brooms etc. Various types of carvings, elegant and delicate decorative objects made from marble are appealing.
In recent times there has been a huge demand for pottery. Earthen pots sell more during summer and it is pleasant to drink cold water stored in mud pots. Many of such clay pots and utensils are on display this season.
The special Handloom Expo has artisans from Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Haryana, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka.
On display include Patola sarees, bandini sarees, embroidered bed sheets, towels, cushion covers, eco-friendly jewelery, dress materials, earthenware, beadwork, metalwork, kurti, kaniya and karni products.
Lawn mats, pouches, vanity bags are among other major attractions. The Anu Creations store also has a number of attractive tools.
A variety of paintings and frames, vases made of paper, cloth and a collection of decorative flowers are sure to draw everyone’s attention.
All in all, this festival season has brought together the culture and crafts, handloom fashions, accessories and clothing that will make the shoppers experience more memorable.
