Do we need helipad at the cost of trees?

April 11, 2021

Sir,

Mysuru city is trying to retain its name and glory as “Heritage City” and “Cleanest City” but a few are bent upon destroying the beautiful landscape of our city in the name of development. Thanks to the active residents who have strongly objected to the helipad near the Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel.

The Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel surroundings were planted by the Forest Department a few years ago and the area is now wooded with beautiful trees.

Some years ago when the Government wanted to remove the main gate and the security cottage, the local NGOs resisted with roadblock and dharna to put an end to the proposal.

Now again it is our duty and commitment to protect the wooded landscape near Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel, Chamundi Hill, Zoo and other areas. Where is the guarantee that all tourists just use a helicopter to reach Mysuru, when National Super-Highway, Bullet-Trains and Aircraft are available?

This project should be abandoned when 35,000 people have objected online. Let the Government take up a public hearing to satisfy its ego. Save Forest, Save Environment.
