T. Narasipur man killed in 2016 for having affair with mother-in-law

Mysore/Mysuru: Five persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Second Additional District and Sessions Court for the murder of a man who had illicit relationship with his mother-in-law. The judge Hosamani Pundalika also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 each on the accused.

One Mahesh who hailed from Yadathore (Kurisiddanahundi) in T. Narasipur Taluk was killed by his wife’s relatives as he had an illicit relationship with his mother-in-law. The accused included Mahesh’s mother-in-law Mani alias Revamma, brother-in-law Kailas, Doddagangu, Yogesh and Doddaraju.

Mahesh had married Vanitha, daughter of Rachaiah alias Kariya of Yadathore village and had developed intimacy with his mother-in-law Mani who used to visit Mahesh frequently. Getting a whiff of the affair, Rachaiah and Kailas advised Mahesh to sever ties with Mani and lead a normal life with Vanitha.

Rachaiah also informed Mahesh’s parents about the affair and the family too had advised Mahesh who picked up a quarrel with Mani for letting out their secrets. Fights broke out between them a couple of times and Rachaiah’s family was waiting to take revenge on Mahesh.

On Aug. 28, 2016, Mahesh came to Rachaiah’s house and asked Kailas for his bike to go to Gargeshwari. Picking up a fight with Mahesh, Rachaiah accused him of visiting his house to see Mani and continue the illicit affair. A war of words broke out between them and Kailas called some of his relatives and all of them assaulted Mahesh.

He was beaten badly with sticks and roof tiles and later, Mani hit Mahesh’s head with a pickaxe. A heavily bleeding Mahesh was shifted to T. Narasipur Hospital by one Ningaraju and was later referred to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru where Mahesh died on Sept. 1. The assault case was converted into a murder case.

The charge-sheet was filed to the Court by the then T. Narasipur Inspector Manoj Kumar. Rachaiah breathed his last during trial and it was proved in the Court that Mani had assaulted Mahesh with a pickaxe to impress her family members and gain their confidence though she was complicit in the affair with Mahesh.

Finding the accused guilty of murder, the Court sentenced them to life imprisonment. Public Prosecutor H.V. Anandakumar argued for the State.
