Apex Court to hear Karnataka’s plea on TN’s Cauvery river project

Bengaluru: The Supreme Court will hear the Karnataka’s Government’s plea questioning Tamil Nadu Government’s decision to go ahead with its plans of taking up  Cauvery-Vellaru-Vaigai-Gundar river link canal works near Kunnathur in Pudukkottai district , for the purpose of utilising 45 TMC of additional water of Cauvery river, this week, it is learnt.

Tamil Nadu had evolved a plan for constructing a 262 km long  feeder canal for Gundar river in order to channelise excess Cauvery water available at Mayanur dam in Karur district. Subsequently, the Karnataka Government had petitioned the Supreme Court questioning Tamil Nadu’s river linking canal project in Feb. 2020. Karnataka in its petition has contended that it is wholly entitled to its share of 248.75 TMC of Cauvery water and also additional availability of 45 TMC water.
