Mysuru: Prof. T. Subramanyam Naidu, former Dean and Director of Central University, Pondicherry, has been appointed as a Member of the ICSSR (Indian Council of Social Science Research).
ICSSR was established by the Government of India in 1969 to promote research in Social Sciences in the country. It gives grants to institutions and scholars, and reviews the progress of Social Sciences research.
Born in 1952 and residing in Bengaluru, Prof. Naidu is a graduate from S.V. University, Tirupati. A Ph.D holder from University of Mysore, he has worked as an Anthropologist in Anthropological Survey of India, Mysuru, for 12 years. He did his research on the growth and development of Tirumala -Tirupati Temples. Prof. Naidu’s report was appreciated by the then Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao and suggestions in the infrastructure development such as Vaikuntam, Shopping complex, Annadhana scheme, development of Mada streets, construction of Kalyana Katta and introducing of Pushpa yagam rituals were implemented.
In recognition of his intense research activity on the tribes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the Government of India awarded the “Republic Day Commendation Award” in 1998. He is currently an Advisor in the Andaman Tribal Research Institute.
Presently, he is also a serving member in NCERT (ERIC), and Executive Council Member of Orissa Central University.
