Mysore/Mysuru: The Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, JSS Dental College and Hospital, Mysuru, had organised a Continuing Dental Education (CDE) programme and Hands-on workshop titled “Sedation in Dentistry” at Sri Gowrishankara Auditorium in the College premises recently.
In all, 41 delegates including the fresh post-graduate students from JSS Dental College and other Dental Colleges from across the State attended the event.
The CDE was inaugurated by Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER). Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Manjunatha emphasised the need of holding scientific events on a regular basis to keep dental practitioners uptodate on current techniques.

Dr. Seema Deshmukh proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. S. Ravindra, Principal and Dr. B.R. Chandrashekar, Vice-Principal (Academics), JSS Dental College and Hospital, were present.
Dr. Padmanabhan Yuvaraj, Director, The Dentale Academy and Reader, RVS Dental College & Hospital, Coimbatore, gave guest lectures on “Choosing the Right Type of Sedation,” emphasising through the refresher and update course on the importance of understanding the various levels of sedation, choosing the right type of sedation in dental practice, and selecting oral, intranasal, inhalational, and intravenous sedation in specific situations.
The second session focused on “Understanding Nitrous Oxide Inhalational Sedation,” with the resource person emphasising parts of the nitrous oxide inhalational sedation unit, safety mechanisms built into the unit, and safe application of nitrous oxide inhalational sedation in various dental procedures, with an emphasis on paediatric applications.
In the later session, he also conducted a hands-on training for the participants, where they were given the opportunity to utilise and administer nitrous oxide inhalational sedation, giving them confidence in using the device in their daily practice.
