Mandya: A miscreant, who waylaid a car on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway, has extorted Rs. 23,000 from a Bengaluru resident after creating a fake accident story and threatening the car driver with a knife. The incident took place near the Factory Circle in Mandya.

One T.S. Chandrashekar, a resident of Bengaluru, was proceeding towards Bengaluru from Mysuru in his Hyundai i10 car (KL-22-H-9020) and when he neared the Factory Circle in Mandya, a miscreant on a Suzuki Access scooter (KA-11-EQ-2858) overtook the car and stopped him.

When Chandrashekar stopped the car, the miscreant came and sat inside the car and told Chandrashekar that he had hit his scooter causing damages to the scooter and also injuring him. The miscreant then demanded Rs. 23,000 from Chandrashekar.

When he (Chandrashekar) told the miscreant that he had never hit any scooter during his journey from Mysuru, the miscreant suddenly brandished a knife and threatened Chandrashekar of stabbing him.

Chandrashekar then told the miscreant that he had only Rs. 5,000 with him and gave the money to the miscreant. But the miscreant told Chandrashekar to withdraw cash from the nearby ATM and give him to which Chandrashekar told him that he did not have the ATM card with him.

The miscreant then made Chandrashekar to alight from the car and took him to a beeda stall on the side of Mysuru-Bengaluru Road and told Chandrashekar that he was surrounded and if he did not give the money they would kill him.

Left with no other options, Chandrashekar got the money transferred from his friend’s wife Bank account and also from his brother Mohanraj’s account and then transferred the money via  Google Pay to the Mobile Phone number 99167-92308 which was given by the miscreant.

Based on the complaint from Chandrashekar, Mandya East Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
