Police take over 80 persons into custody; Issue warning before releasing them

Mandya: Following increase in crimes in Mandya, Mandya Police yesterday conducted an operation yesterday evening and took over 80 suspicious persons into custody, warned them not to involve in crime and related activities before letting them off.

The sudden operation by the Mandya Police was conducted following instruction from Superintendent of Police (SP) Yatish as various crime cases including the Rs. 13 lakh dacoity between Ramanagar and Bidadi, Rs. 6 lakh robbery at a shop on Guttalu Road, house burglaries at Hale Boodanur and Swarnasandra and drug consumption cases in the district had increased. The operation began from Guttalu Factory Circle till Jayalakshmi Theatre and Police took custody of suspicious persons, those involved in crimes and those standing in groups in front of tea shops, wine stores and circles. Cops chased youths sitting and chatting in the ground next to Jayalakshmi Theatre and caught hold of them. Those who were taken into custody were brought to the Police Station and the Police checked their background to ascertain their involvement in crimes. Cases were registered against those involved in petty crimes and they were warned against involving themselves in crime activities and were also warned not to stand in groups.

As soon as the news of Police taking custody of people on Guttalu Road spread, youths residing in various layouts including Guttalu and Swarnasandra stayed in their houses to avoid Police.
