Karaikal (Puducherry): The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) said that it will follow the Supreme Court (SC) order in respect of Mekedatu drinking water project, which has been a bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
The statement comes a day after a team of CWMA officials, along wth Tamil Nadu PWD officials, visited the Gauging Station set up by the CWMA at the Puducherry-Tamil Nadu border and inspected other areas in the Cauvery basin.
Speaking after the inspection, CWMA Chairman Soumitra Kumar Haldar said that Karnataka has planned to build a dam at Mekedatu for drinking water purpose, following which Tamil Nadu has moved the Supreme Court against Karnataka’s plans.
As the matter is now in the SC, the CWMA will have to follow the SC order on the row. In case, the SC bestows powers with the CWMA, then the Authority will discuss the issue with the warring States, Haldar noted.
