Kadamba State-level Solo Women’s Theatre Festival from Feb. 2 to 4

Mysore/Mysuru: Kadamba Ranga Vedike, city’s well-known amateur theatre group, in association with Kannada and Culture Department, Bengaluru, is hosting Kadamba State-level Solo Women’s Theatre Festival from Feb. 2 to 4 at Mini Theatre (Kirurangamandira) in Kalamandira premises on Hunsur Road here.

Feb. 2: Sanehalli Gramaranga Samskruthika Trust will be staging the play titled ‘Vasundhare’ (Unveiling of Earth’s Intermediate space) casting Manjula Badami. The play is composed by H.S. Dyamesh and directed by Y.D. Badami.

Summary: In the entire universe (solar system), it is believed that life exists only on earth. We are indebted to our mother earth. Hence our ancestors have always considered earth as a living object and respected by calling her by many names like Vasundhare, Dhare, Ile, Pruthvi, Podavi, Rase, Shamayadharithri, Jeevadaayi, Thire, Dhaatri, Dharani, Dhaarini and so on. The story revolves around our mother earth.

Feb. 3: Centre for Divine Arts, Bengaluru, will stage ‘Avvarasi’ with Dr. Leela Basavaraj as the solo actor. The play is directed by the well-known theatre Director Krishnamurthy Kavattar.

Summary: Avvarasi is based on the life story of heroic queen Chennabaira Devi who fought against the Portugese and ruled Malenadu for over 54 years. The story portrays Chennabaira Devi’s political life, lifestyle, fanaticism, passionate affection and essence of womanhood.

Feb. 4: Crown’s Reverie Group will stage ‘Ranganayaki’ (All she had is magic but no life). The play is directed and enacted by Apoorva Nagaraj.

Summary: The play is about an old woman reminiscing her young age spent on stage. The play depicts the cultural changes that the society witnesses in those few years.

The play starts at 7 pm on all three days and Entry is free.

The 3-day theatre Festival will be inaugurated by senior theatre person Sundarashree, grand-daughter of Gubbi Veeranna and daughter of G.V. Shivanand. Senior actress Rameshwari Verma and Rangayana Deputy Director Nirmala Mathapati will be the guests of honour. Kadamba Ranga Vedike President Rajashekhar Kadamba will preside.
