Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav at JSS Urban Haat

Mysore/Mysuru: Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, Gujarat,  is organising “Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav”  under Hastakala Setu Yojan at JSS Mysore Urban Haat in association with Industrial Extension Cottage (Indext-C), Government of Gujarat and Commissioner & Secretary, Cottage & Industries, Government of Gujarat, from Feb. 24 to Mar. 5.

Artisans of Gujarat will exhibit and sell Handloom and Handicraft artefacts at JSS Mysore Urban Haat on Hebbal Ring Road in city from 10 am to 8 pm daily.

Hastakala Setu Yojan is the first innovative project to transform rural entrepreneurship ecosystem which will help in reaching out to youths and artisans in villages to get outcome-based results. Each district will have Gujarat Cottage Industries Development Centre (GCIDC) to fulfil various need-based support required for the project.

The project commenced in 2020 and the second phase started from May 2021. It plans to cover 33 districts in a span of three years.

Objectives of Hastakala Setu Yojan: To create new entrepreneurs at each district; Enhance potential of existing entrepreneurs; Create additional jobs and livelihood options through new enterprises; Conduct District-wise Demand Study (covering clusters) to enable in-depth study of demand and growth potential in the district with respect to existing and futuristic sectors.

More than 60 Master Craftsmen from Gujarat will be participating in the Utsav to exhibit, demonstrate and trade their rich customary art and craft like Patola weaving, Shawl weaving, Kutchi-Embroidery, Arjakh Block Print, Tie & Dye (Bandhej), Zari-Zardosi work, Bead work, Wooden & Metal art work, Jewellery & accessories, Nail painting, Home decor & furnishings, leather work etc. 

The art-loving people of Mysuru can enjoy the crafts of Gujarat and cultural programmes at the Utsav to be inaugurated by K.M. Gayathri, Chief Executive Officer, Zilla Panchayat, Mysuru, tomorrow at 4 pm. Dr. C.G. Betsurmuth, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, will preside. S. Shivakumaraswamy, Secretary-2, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, S. Puttasubbappa, Director, Finance Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. B. Suresh, Director, Technical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, K.L. Revanna Swamy, Director In-charge, General Development Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. H. R. Mahadevaswamy, Joint Director, Technical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Brijesh Dave, Senior Manager, EDII, Ahmedabad will be the chief guests on the occasion.

The entire event is being conducted under the guidance of Prof. Satya Ranjan Acharya, Director, Entrepreneurship Education, EDII, Ahmedabad.

There is no entry and parking fee for visitors, according to Dr. H. R. Mahadevaswamy, Joint Director, Technical Education Division, JSS Mahavidyapeetha.
