Pandit Indudhar Nirody to perform at Ganabharathi

Ganabharathi has organised a Hindustani music concert by Pandit Indudhar Nirody at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar on July 28 (Friday) at 6 pm.

He will be accompanied by Pandit Veerabhadraiah Hiremath on vocal, Pandit Sriram Bhat on harmonium and Pandit  Ramesh Dhannur on tabla.

Profile: Indudhar Nirody is a highly respected senior vocalist and teacher of the Agra Gharana. He was initiated into music at a young age by his father  Nirody Sunder Rao and had the preliminary lessons in music from Gavai Sri Pitre Ramarao at Udupi. After migrating to Mumbai, he received training from Pandit Gurudatt Heblekar. Later he had intensive musical training from Pandit S.C.R. Bhat, Pandit K.G. Ginde, Pandit Chidanand Nagarkar and Pandit Dinkar Kaikini.

He had the opportunity of giving vocal accompaniment to his gurus in their concerts. This helped him to assimilate and imbibe some of the finest aspects of Raagadari Sangeet in his music  and honed his style to perfection. He has performed at various centres and also given lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of Hindustani music.  

He is a “Top” grade artiste of All India Radio and continues to perform in AIR and Doordarshan. After retiring from LIC, he has devoted himself to the development of Music. Pandit Nirody has received several awards — first prize in the AIR music competition, “Gaurava Prashasthi” by the Karnataka Sangeetha Nritya Academy and later “Sangeetha Vidwan Puraskar.” He has worked as a Visiting Professor of Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music University and has received the Honorary Doctorate from the University. He is also a recipient of Savai Gandharva National Puraskar.
