Extend Mysuru’s air link to Coimbatore via Kochi

May 21, 2023

Sir,

Mysuru, known for its numerous air links to cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Hubballi, and Kochi, has greatly benefited its industries and commercial businesses. However, it seems that the Civil Aviation Department has overlooked the need to extend these air connections to the nearby industrial city of Coimbatore.

Coimbatore, already equipped with a fully functional airport, shares a strong business connection with Mysuru in various industries such as hosiery, carpets, motor pumps, and engineering tools.

Moreover, Coimbatore serves as a gateway to the renowned temples of South India, as well as housing significant sugar factories like Bannari Amman Sugars. Additionally, Coimbatore attracts tourists who visit popular destinations such as the Isha Foundation and the Yercaud Hill Station.

Given the abundant potential for business and industry in Coimbatore and its proximity to Mysuru, it is crucial to consider leveraging these resources to foster the development of Mysuru by establishing air connectivity between the two cities.

Furthermore, the introduction of an air route from Mysuru to Coimbatore can be planned in conjunction with the existing air link to Kochi, thereby maximising business opportunities.

Currently, transportation via buses and cars on the Sathyamangalam Ghat Road is restricted during night-time hours (5 pm to 6 am) to protect the nearby forest and its wildlife. This restriction also applies to lorry transport, resulting in delays in cargo deliveries due to the imposed bottlenecks. Even passenger vehicles travelling through this area, which offers a convenient shortcut to destinations like Tirupur, Erode and Coimbatore, face difficulties due to the limitations imposed on their journey time.

The only available train option, the Kochiveli Express, proves to be inconvenient as it takes nearly 12 hours to reach Coimbatore from Mysuru.

Considering these circumstances and with a vision for overall development, I kindly request our MP Pratap Simha, to recommend to the Central Government the establishment of an air link between Mysuru and Coimbatore. It is essential to explore all possibilities for development and facilitate improved connectivity between these two important cities.

In addition to the flight if allotted under Udaan 5.0 (regional connectivity scheme) if Mr.Simha could request the railway minister to extend the Coimbatore – Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express to Mysuru it will be good for businessmen who want to go to Salem , Erode & Tiruppur and those who want to go by train.it will be the third Vande Bharat after the present Chennai – Mysuru and soon to be launched by August 15th the Mangaluru – Mysuru Vande Bharat express. Correction in above post yercaud hill station is near Salem and ooty is near Coimbatore.

    Hello Ramanath
No need to connect through the air, if the central government in cooperation with the Mysore government implements the tunnel through connection from Charajanagara to Satyamangam via Bannari, which were planed under the British before independence. Since thn , it wasr improved in 1950s, but never implemented partly because the Mysore state then was a wet state-meaning alcohol availability, and Madras state was a dry state with ancohol ban ,and hence the Madras government rejected this railway tunnel implementation which would have connected Mysore toSatyamangalam and then on to Coimbatore.
The enduring pollution free connectivity is to reconsider the above Railway tunnel plan now with the heavy duty earth moving technology available. If London could be connected to Paris by the Eurostar train through the tunnel under the sea bed of the English Channel, the above tunnel-based connectivity should be a comparatively less intensive effort.
On the flip side, both Keralites and Tamilians want to emigrate to greater Mysore in very large numbers considering that this area is less densely populated.

  4. Aniyan Verghese says:

Indians are choking with massive population having bred like rats. Internally in India, people from the very densely populated Kerala and Tamil Nadu want to migrate to Mysore. Do not ask them to learn the language-Kannada!
At the international levels, Indians are resorting tom the extreme measure of paying to people smugglers, to smuggle them through the East European countries through the English Channel on Dinghies to clainm asylum in England. Increasingly, the Indian students are also doing this as once asylum is branted they get loans for study and settlenment. Indians are the worsst scroungers.

Today, Modi is touring Australasia to boast about the reputation of India and Indians!!

  5. Sathish says:

The common man cannot afford the flight charges. Widening or tunnelling the ghat area is the better solution for goods transport. Also the existing road should be widened to a four lane from Coimbatore to Mysuru.

  6. Robin Mathew says:

For the past two years there is no flight from Mysore to Cochin.

  7. Kiran says:

    Flights to Kochi is stopped.

Exclusive flight to Coimbatore from Mysore departing at 8.30 am from Mysore and from Coimbatore at 8.30 pm will be ideal for business people, Many youngsters and also many senior citizens.

Mysore to Coimbatore by road is very long and tiring journey and one cannot travel in comfort to and from the same day.

A large number of Kannadigas live in coimbatore and so also the other way too.

  8. Partha Sarathy says:

Sir when Indian Railways has succeeded in
Making Tunnel between Banihal and Srinagar
Why not from chamarajanagar to Satti.
Immediately Railways should do survey start
Boring Tunnel to connect Coimbatore to Mysore via Chamarajanagar.

  9. When Indian Railways has done Marvelous job of tunnelling from Bhanihal to Srinagar why not from chamarajanagar 6 Coimbatore
Immediately this may be surveyed and work may be started. It is a lucrative business to Railways in terms of Business potential.

  10. Divakar says:

Kochiveli Express, timing is very inconvenient as it takes nearly 12 hours to reach Coimbatore from Mysuru and is a day waste. The rain reaches Bangalore before time usually and halts more than 2 hrs at times here whichis a waste of passenger time and railway resources.

  11. Pats says:

The ghats between Mysore-Karnataka and Bannari-Tamilnadu is a God given barrier between KA and TN. The inbetween forest is for wild animals. Tunnelling will destroy the forest and animals habitat. The area is also of a source of rain and catchment area for the region. Leave it the way it is. Kannadigas will open a Pandora box by establishing 24X7 direct wide road connectivity with Tamilnadu. Tamils will flood like water and occupy the peaceful Kannadigas. If you have doubts, think about Bengaluru. If you find it difficult to travel, please don’t travel. The maximum you can plan is a morning and evening single direct flight between Mysuru and Coimbatore.

  12. Raampur Ka Laxman!! says:

Indians areb thev worsr moaners thinkingh that it is some one else’s problem. Although , this country, which wife deserter Modi calls, Tech India, it is still very medieval in many ways. All India has achieved is creating IT sweatshops, where IT Techies, the modern coolies, sweat 24/7 producig codes for the software development, outsourced to India, by Western companies.
Indian transport system focuses on cities, and hence, people move from villages to cities, bloating the population of cities.
Successive governments in Karnataka, particularly those which had CMs from the arid North Karnataka, ignored old Mysore, and poured money to develop, the the dry regions of erstwhile Maharashtra like Belgaum, and ignored totally the Old Mysore areas.
Hence, the project like the railway tunnel, not very long into the Ghat that borders Chamarajanagara, could have connected Mysore by express trains to Bannari, Sathuamangalam and to Coimbatore, within a few hours. Even CMs like SM Krishna, was not interested hailing from Mandya. He was busy promoting Vokkaligas.
Now that Karnataka has ??Congress government, Modi and his saffron crowd of thugs at the central goverenment will not be interested in any such prject as the above railway tunnel, which would take an express train from say the Chamundipuram railway station to all the way to Coimbatore, with stop overs at Nanjangud, Chamrajanagara, Bannari, Sathymangalam to Coimbatore this way , rather thamn the roundabout route through Bangalore.
The cheap crude and gas Modi purchases from Russia will not last long as there are initiatives by China to stop the Ukraine war. Then, the petrol prices skyrocket in India, and car loving scoundrels like Indians will be it hard. Railway connectivity will come so handy.

  13. Venkatesh says:

Karnataka, on one side wanted to develop its cities on the other side, it is a major hindrance to development of other state cities. Recently Karnataka blocked Hosur Airport and also metro connectivity to Hosur, due to some protests by Kannada Fringe Groups. The reason they stated why should be aid the development of Tamils. Not only that recently Kerala CM visited Bengaluru to request a road connectivity in Kerala through Karnataka, which was obviously rejected by Karnataka, stating it is of no use to Karnataka, but it is of use to Malayalis. Since, such attitude is seen by Karnataka in many issues, the neighboring states should also should take similar attitudes when dealing with Karnataka. If the plan is beneficial only to Karnataka, it should be ditched, just like Karnataka is doing to others.

  14. Prathibha says:

Mysuru to Kochi flights have stopped, it would be very beneficial if they had restarted the same. Hoping it does at the earliest.
