Mysuru: The autorickshaw drivers in the city are a berated lot. Rarely does one have a good word about them. However, there are exceptions and there are many instances where they have displayed their honesty winning the hearts of the passengers they drive around.
In one such incident, a woman who had left behind her purse containing cash and ATM card in an autorickshaw had a pleasant experience, when the driver returned it displaying his integrity and honesty.
Dr. Shobha Hebbar, a resident of Jayalakshmipuram, booked an ‘Ola’ autorickshaw on July 22 to go near KR Hospital. Within two minutes, the auto arrived. As she got into the auto she noticed that the OTP number and the Registration Number were not matching. She got suspicious and immediately got out of the auto and drove to her destination in her own two-wheeler.
Meanwhile, Dr. Shobha had left behind the purse containing more than Rs. 2,500 cash and an ATM card while she had got into the auto. She realised it only much later after finishing all her work. She tried searching for the auto and the driver for two days and finally was successful in tracing him after getting his phone number.
The driver Sayyed Habid on receiving the call told her that he had carefully preserved the purse and returned it to her.
A delighted Dr. Shobha told Star of Mysore that in her experience, she has found poor people to be more honest in spite of their poverty and expressed her confidence in majority of the autorickshaw drivers.
