Surgarcane growers seek fulfilment of demands: CM to convene meeting on Nov. 29

Mysore/Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers, led by State Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurubur Shantakumar, met CM Siddharamaiah at the latter’s Ramakrishnanagar residence yesterday and submitted a memorandum seeking solutions to their problems.

Speaking to the media after meeting the CM, Kururbur Shantakumar said that they discussed their problems with the CM and also pointed out to him that despite previous State Government’s order, sugar factory owners are not paying additional amount Rs. 150 per ton of sugarcane supplied to them. They complained that Police took them to custody like criminals while they were staging a protest in city recently.

Shantakumar said the CM has agreed to convene a meeting of farmers, Minister for Sugar and Secretary, Directorate of Sugarcane Development and Sugar, on Nov. 29 to find solution to their problems.
