75th Anniversary of Quit India Movement observed in city

August 9, 2017

Mysuru: They were all dressed in white khadi shirts, pants and dhotis and seemed as though they had assembled at the Freedom Fighters Park (Subbarayana Kere) on Narayana Shastry Road in city to launch a stir. But, no. They all were veteran freedom fighters who had assembled at the park to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement.

The freedom fighters hoisted the National Flag and later garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. They sat under the peepal tree and recalled the Quit India Movement that happened in Mysuru.

Prof. Venkatachalaiah, veteran freedom fighter, who spoke on the occasion, said that the struggle was so intense that everyone had made up their minds not to stop the struggle until the British gave us freedom.

“Quit India Movement is one among the most important part of our freedom struggle. People from all walks of life including the students, advocates, teachers and others took part in the movement which led to India attaining freedom in the year 1947,” he added.

Freedom Fighters Association President M.G. Krishnamurthy, Vice President Y.C. Revanna, freedom fighters Shivanna, T.S. Jagadish, Prof. H.N. Kodanda Ramachandra, Somashekar, G.L.N. Ayya, Puttannaiah and others were present.

Meanwhile, District (City) Congress Committee also held a rally from City Railway Station to Freedom Fighters Park to mark the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement. The Congress party workers were seen holding the Tri-colour and the Congress flag and shouting pro-India slogans. They also distributed sweets and buttermilk to people assembled in the park.
