BJP functionary, whistle-blower advocate Devarajegowda arrested

May 11, 2024

Bengaluru: BJP functionary and advocate G. Devarajegowda was arrested yesterday, a day following his plea for anticipatory bail amidst apprehensions of being arrested in a sexual harassment case filed against him on Apr. 1.

Reports suggest that Devarajegowda was detained near Hiriyur in Chitradurga when he was on his way to Hassan. The allegations against Devarajegowda include sexual harassment, voyeurism and violation of privacy under the IT Act, as per the FIR, where three others have also been named.

The woman filed a complaint against Devarajegowda, alleging that he sexually harassed her. According to her account, Devarajegowda abused her after she approached him regarding the sale of a site approximately 10 months ago.

His detention occurred a day after he filed for anticipatory bail before the II Additional District and Sessions Court on May 9. Following the initial hearing on Thursday, the Court scheduled the subsequent hearing for May 15.

Notably, Devarajegowda previously raised concerns as a whistle-blower regarding the alleged obscene videos from Hassan, purportedly involving MP Prajwal Revanna in 2023.

He advised the party leadership against forming an alliance with JD(S) for the Lok Sabha election, cautioning that the Opposition could exploit the issue as a political tactic during the polls.

Devarajegowda also made accusations against the Congress leadership, particularly Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He asserted that Shivakumar was involved in the leak of the scandalous videos and accused SIT officials of pressuring him to omit the Minister’s name from his statement.
