May 19, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Vid. Shankar Shanbhogue‘s ‘Kavya Sangeetha’ musical performance enthralled the audience at the 128th cultural programme organised jointly by BVB (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan), Mysuru Kendra and Infosys Foundation, Bengaluru, at the BVB auditorium in Vijayanagar 1st Stage here yesterday.

Vid. Shankar Shanbhogue was accompanied by Raghunath on tabla, Shanmuga Sajja on keyboard and Gurudath Hunsur on rhythm pad.

Vid. Shankar rendered Kavya, Vachana, Janapada, Bhavageethe, Tatva Pada, Dasarapada etc., with a melodious voice, which captivated the gathering.

He began by rendering the invocation ‘Gajamukhane Ekadantane…’ Later, he sang Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s song ‘Om Sachidananda Tritva Mukhavaada Parabrahmadalli…’

Thereafter, he sang many Vachanas of Basavanna including ‘Kalabeda, Kolabeda, Husiya Nudiyalu Beda..’, Allamaprabhu’s Vachana ‘Bhumi Ninnadalla, Kaamini Ninnavalalla, Avu Jagakkikkida Vidhi’, Haridasa’s song etc.,

Earlier, Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra Founder-Editor K.B. Ganapathy, who is also BVB Mysuru Chairman, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Speaking on the occasion, Vid. Shankar Shanbhogue said: “It is rare to find artistes making attempts to make the audience understand literature. On the other hand, the audience too is interested in only hearing the singers or musicians. The audience also seems to be little bothered to understand the meaning of the songs rendered by the singers. As such, literature is slowly losing its ground in music. Music is a media for taking literature closer to people and make them understand it better.”

Pointing out that it was Haridasa who led the Saraswatha world after Vachanakaras, Vid. Shankar said that there is a wrong perception that Haridasa advocated Adhyatma and Madhwa Philosophy. But the fact is that he explained in simple terms on how to live, how to follow the right path and how to correct mistakes. Haridasa’s literature is virtuous to Kannada literature, he added.
