1,119 students receive degrees at 16th Graduates’ Day ceremony

Mysore/Mysuru: A.S. Kiran Kumar, former Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has given a clarion call to the graduates to explore the benefits  of technology for the uplift of society, especially when even the unlettered are making judicious use of Science and Technology for a better livelihood.

He was addressing a gathering of students during 16th Graduates’ Day ceremony held at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road in the city recently.

The country is making a rapid progress in all the fields including Science and Technology. The Chandrayaan Mission conducted in August 2023 indeed made the whole world look at India, with the successful landing of Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover on the Moon. Even when Coronavirus pandemic struck the country, the Science and Technology came in handy in leveraging the progress of the country by adopting new technologies in making vaccine and giving impetus to digital transactions making life easy for all.

Reminiscing the historical Sputnik launch and the visionary work of renowned Space Scientist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, which set the foundation for India’s space endeavours, Kiran Kumar elaborated on the various social technological experiments conducted by ISRO in the 1950s and highlighted recent advancements, such as the initiative to aid fishermen with technology for locating fish shoals and navigation.

Come 2047, the country will be celebrating centenary year of becoming independent, that sets the tone for realising the dream of ‘Viksit Bharat’ in commemoration of the proud moment. By utilising the tools of Science and Technology, we should spend all our energy towards the growth of the country and society. You are capable enough not just to bring changes in your own life, but in the life of others too, added Kiran Kumar in his advise to the students.

The graduates must recognise their duties and contribute to the nation’s development across various sectors, underlined Kiran Kumar. He drew a parallel between robots with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human sensory organs, emphasising the importance of holistic development, before concluding his speech by reminding the graduates of India’s foundational principles, which prioritise nature and collective well-being over individual gains. A total of 1,119 students including 571 Under Graduate (UG) students and 548 Post Graduate (PG) students received their degrees.
