Mysore/Mysuru: Students who topped in the recent SSLC and CBSE Class X exams were honoured with ‘Rotary Gayathri Educational Awards’ at Rotary Mysore Hall, JLB Road in city on May 30. The Award, instituted by late Rtn. M.T. Ramachandra and family in the year 1990, is presented every year to the meritorious students in association with Rotary Mysore.

The awards this year were presented to following students; SSLC category – S. Jahnavi and S. Pragathi, Bharatiya Vidya  Bhavan (BVB), D.S. Dhanvee and A. Kavyashree, Sadvidya High School, Pratham S. Bharadwaj, B. Sudeepta and M.D. Sudeeksha, Vijaya Vittala High School and Anvitha R. Bhat, Savithri Convent. CBSE category – Vamshika D. Agarwal, St. Joseph’s Central School and B.K. Sudhanva, St. Joseph’s School.

Prof. C.G. Nagaraja, retired Head Master of Demonstration School (DMS), RIE campus, who presented the awards,   said that the parents under stress are more likely to transfer the pressure to their wards. Hence, the parents must avoid stress and assist their children in scoring good marks. Similarly, the next two years are vital for the students and it is essential to admit them to a good college to create a conducive atmosphere for their studies.

“Most importantly, the students should have a better understanding of time management, content management and internet management. The judicious use of time and the method of studying the subject assume significance, especially with a cautious approach on ways to use the internet. The internet has both advantages and disadvantages. Though YouTube offers academic materials, it is more used for entertainment, which calls for applying caution in using the net,” added Prof. Nagaraja.

He also advised for inculcating additional qualities like kindness, affection, humbleness, feeling of satisfaction and courage among the students by imparting spiritual education to the students, apart from teaching the syllabus. A class should be dedicated for teaching Yogasana, Meditation daily, which also boosts the interest of students in academics.

M.R. Rajaram, former President of Rotary Mysore and son of Rtn. M.T. Ramachandra, wished the recipients of the awards to have a bright future and emerge as achievers by contributing their mite to the society. Rotary Mysore President Arun Belawadi, Secretary Venkatesh, Seema Rajaram and others were present.
