Mysore/Mysuru: A decomposed carcass of a tiger has been found in the forest area of Anechowkur Range in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve. Forest officials suspect that the tiger may have died from injuries sustained in a territorial fight with another tiger.

On June 11, while returning to the Anti-Poaching Camp after their regular patrol, Forest staff detected the stench of a dead animal in the Govindegowda Kandi region. Upon investigating, they discovered the decomposed body of a tiger and informed their superiors.

On June 12, Nagarahole DCF Harshakumar Chikkanaragunda, Chief Veterinarian Dr. B.C. Chittiyappa, Veterinarian Dr. Ramesh, ACF D.S. Dayanand, Hon. Wildlife Warden Kruthika Mohan, NTCA representative K.V. Bose, Gram Panchayat representatives and other forest officials arrived at the spot to conduct an inspection.

Following National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines, a post-mortem was conducted at the site. It was determined that the tiger, approximately five-year-old, likely died after fighting with another tiger. The tiger’s carcass was cremated in the presence of senior Forest officials.
