Prof. Embar Sampathkumar Achar (88), Professor Emeritus, Department of Studies in Mathematics, University of Mysore and a resident of No.39, 1st Stage, 1st Main, KHB Colony, Agrahara Dasarahalli in Bengaluru, passed away on Aug. 11 in Mysuru.

Prof. Embar Sampathkumar Achar was a pioneer in Graph Theory and his birthday is celebrated as Graph Theory Day in India on June 10 every year.

He is survived by two sons E.S. Ravi and E.S. Raghavan, daughters-in-law Kamalshree and Meera, grand-children Bhargav, Pranav, Nandita and Aditya and a host of relatives and friends. Last rites were held in Bengaluru yesterday
