Body found in big drain near Devayyana Hundi

Mysore/Mysuru: A body of a man who was allegedly murdered was found in the big drain near Devayyana Hundi. The man is said to have been hit to death with a beer bottle late on Sunday night and the incident came to light lately.

The deceased has been identified as Manju (35) a resident of Devayyana Hundi and a construction worker by profession. It is learnt that two strangers, who threatened two youths from Srirampura, who were sitting on the bridge of the big drain, snatched the beer bottle they were holding and using the same beer bottle the strangers are said to have murdered Manju.

On Sunday at about 11 pm, Manoj of Srirampura along with his friend Mahendra came to a bar on Manandavadi Road to get a bottle of beer to his relative. They then came to Nanjumalige where they parcelled non veg food and were returning to Srirampura.

When they were proceeding from Devayyana Hundi Road to the big drain road, they heard someone calling in front of the BCM Hostel. Neglecting the call, Manoj and Mahendra sat on the bridge and began to consume the food they had brought with them.

Soon, a passenger auto came to the bridge and a man, who got down from the auto began to look inside the big drain. He  later brandished a knife and threatened Manoj and Mahendra. Meanwhile, another person, who came out from the big drain, snatched the beer bottle Manoj was holding and both the strangers went inside the drain.

Soon Manoj and Mahendra heard someone screaming from inside the drain and on observing, they saw the two strangers hitting the head on another person with the beer bottle four to five times and fleeing away in the auto.

Afraid and shocked, Manoj and Mahendra went home and called the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) number 112 and informed the Police about the incident.

Soon, Police rushed to the spot and summoned Manoj and Mahendra and collected information from them. Based on the complaint from Manoj, Ashokapuram Police have registered a case and are investigating.
