Mandya: Yet another case of female foetus abortion racket was busted on Thursday (Aug. 15) night in the district, that has become already infamous for two similar rackets unravelled in the last 10 months from October 2023.

In a meticulously conducted operation, on the back of two-month detailed planning, Health and Family Welfare Department officials, along with Bellur Police, raided a farm house in Mavinakere village near Kadabahalli in Nagamangala taluk in the district and unearthed illegal sex determination racket and aborting the foetus.

Three including a woman identified as Nagamani, who were assisting in aborting the foetus, Manohar, the husband of a woman brought for abortion, who is also employed with a private hospital and Dhananjaya, a ‘D’ group employee in Health Department and the owner of the farm house, have been arrested on related charges.

While the kingpin in the case, identified as Abhishek, who is also booked in the previous two similar cases, has gone at large.

According to District Health Officer (DHO) Dr. Mohan, a person was sent to the farm house as a decoy, when it was confirmed that, a couple had come for sex determination of the foetus and to abort the same later, if it was found to be female.

Following this, the farm house was raided and the suspects were taken into custody.

Abhishek, the prime accused, was adept in scanning the foetus. He is also booked in two similar cases — one registered in the district by Pandavapura Police in May this year and another by Baiyapannahalli Police in Bengaluru in October 2023.
