August 28, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: The Women’s Cell of St. Philomena’s College (Autonomous), in collaboration with the Department of Sociology, had organised a silent protest march on Aug. 24 in solidarity with the young doctor who was sexually assaulted and brutally murdered in Kolkata on Aug. 9.

It was also to raise awareness against the ongoing atrocities faced by women across the nation. The silent protest march  began from the Chapel Hall of St. Philomena’s College with a welcome speech by P. Juhie Singh, Assistant Professor and Convener of Women’s Cell, followed by prayer for the young lady doctor by the Rector and Manager Rev. Fr. Dr. Lourdu Prasad Joseph.

Dr. K. Javeed Nayeem, who was present, advised the women to be their own protectors. Emphasising the need to have safety measures in place for women at work and public places, he felt that men too need to raise their voice for women’s right.
