This is to highlight the deplorable condition of footpaths in the City of Palaces, a destination that attracts countless tourists.

Many footpaths are either occupied by vendors — a problem not unique to Mysuru — or pose serious safety hazards due to uneven slabs or missing covers over the drains underneath (as seen in the recent image taken on Sayyaji Rao Road, near K.R. Hospital compound).

Unfortunately, such scenes are common across several prime areas in the heart of the city. With Dasara fast approaching — a time when thousands of tourists from across the country and abroad visit, especially on Jumboo Savari Day — these dangerous footpaths reflect poorly on the city’s image. There’s also a real risk of people falling into these open pits and getting injured.

Therefore, the authorities are urged to take immediate action to fix these gaps, at least in the city centre, and ensure the footpaths are safe for pedestrians.
