Students Cultural & Sports Forum inaugurated at JSS College

Mysuru: Prof. D.S. Guru, Professor, Department of Computer Science, University of Mysore (UoM), emphasised the importance of education alongside the holistic development of students.

He was delivering the inaugural address at the Under-Graduation Students Cultural and Sports Forum inauguration, JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysuru, recently.

Being an alumnus of the College, Prof. Guru noted that every student has unique talent and the institution plays a vital role in identifying and encouraging them.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda’s words, “A sound mind in a sound body,” Prof. Guru stressed the need for physical fitness to support mental well-being. He advised the students to improve their concentration through physical activities like sports and fine arts, highlighting the benefits of activities such as Bharatanatyam and swimming in making students physically, mentally and emotionally strong.

He urged the students to participate in all the events to showcase their talents and become better versions of themselves. Additionally, he advised them to limit the use of electronic gadgets and focus more on physical activities.

B.D. Kantharaj, retired Assistant Director, Department of Physical Education, UoM, who was the chief guest, said that the students already possess the ability to achieve great things.

He pointed out how, after completing education and entering the workforce, many people fail to maintain their physical health. He urged the students to perform minimum exercise to stay healthy.

Dr. M. Prabhu, Principal, highlighted that the college has laid the foundation for students’ overall development through Cultural and Sports Forums.

In his presidential address, Chief Executive Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah spoke of the college’s achievements and encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the college, including the Cultural and Sports Forum, as well as NCC, NSS and Red Cross.

B.Sc student Santrupti welcomed the gathering. C.M. Vinay of BA second year proposed a vote of thanks. Nandini of BCA third year compered the programme.

Dr. C.R. Madhusudan, Coordinator of the Cultural Committee and M. Karthik, Coordinator of the Sports Forum, were present on the occasion.
