Mysuru: As every year, during this year’s Dasara festival from Oct. 3, the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) has arranged for six Ambaari double-decker buses to tour Mysuru city’s illuminated streets.
The Ambaari buses will run three trips at 6.30 pm, 8 pm, and 9.30 pm. The ticket price is fixed at Rs. 250 for the lower deck and Rs. 500 for the more popular upper deck that has a better view.
The buses will depart from the front of Hotel Mayura Hoysala that houses the KSTDC Office on JLB Road in Mysuru. Interested individuals must book their tickets online. Tickets can be reserved through the official website, allowing passengers to enjoy the illuminated view of the city during Dasara from the Ambaari bus.
The route for the bus starting from Mayura Hoysala will pass through Hunsur Road and proceed via Crawford Hall, Maharaja’s College Grounds, Ramaswamy Circle, Chamaraja Double Road, Gun House Circle, Hardinge Circle, K.R. Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, Government Ayurveda Circle and Railway Station Junction before returning to Mayura Hotel.
Except for the Dasara period, on regular days, there will be only one Ambaari bus departing from the southern gate of the Mysore Palace. For this bus, the ticket price for both decks is set at Rs. 250. The Ambaari bus, with a seating capacity of 47, sees heavy demand for the upper deck. Ambaari bus design flaw yet to be rectified by KSTDC
The Ambaari bus ride is a highly popular service during Dasara as people vie with each other to witness the captivating illumination of city roads from the upper deck of the bus. But unfortunately, the inherent design flaws of these six buses are yet to be rectified.
Looks like those opting for the bus ride will have to stand on the upper deck this year also for an unobstructed view of city illumination.
Following complaints last year, the KSTDC Managing Director had told Star of Mysore, “We have got representations by the public and the media and we will rectify the flaws for better visual experience by next Dasara.”
As the KSTDC has not taken any step in this regard, tourists favouring the top open deck of Ambaari buses will have stand to enjoy the best views of Mysuru during Dasara.
